This week, the article of the week is linked to celebrating International Women's Day.  At Marlow CE Infant School, through our Christian Vision, we believe that everybody should be treated with respect and dignity because we acknowledge their God given value and unique identity.  We empower all of our children to be enthusiastic learners and are inclusive of all.

International Women’s Day, on March 8, celebrates the achievements of women and girls.

This year the theme is #ChoosetoChallenge. We can all choose to challenge unfairness and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child ensures the best childhood for every child. This week’s activities will include some focus on Articles 2 and 28, the rights to non-discrimination and to education. Education is a basic human right that girls in some countries are less able to claim than boys.

The UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK) is currently working with the UK Government to help remove barriers to girls’ education and promote gender equality in education. This IWD we are looking at how we can support the UK Government’s efforts to ensure every girl can get a good education

 

Equal rights and opportunities for all girls and boys help all children fulfil their potential.

Article 2 (non-discrimination)

The Convention applies to every child without discrimination, whatever their ethnicity, gender, religion, language, abilities or any other status, whatever they think or say, whatever their family background.

Article 28 (right to education)

Every child has the right to an education. Primary education must be free and different forms of secondary education must be available to every child. Discipline in schools must respect children’s dignity and their rights. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.

This weeks article of the week is centred around Article 16 & 17.

Article 16  - the right to privacy

Every child has the right to privacy. The law should protect the child’s private, family and home life, including protecting children from unlawful attacks that harm their reputation.

Article 17 - access to information from the media

Every child has the right to reliable information from a variety of sources, and governments should encourage the media to provide information that children can understand. Governments must help protect children from materials that could harm them.

Safer Internet Day is a global event to help everyone to think about being as safe as possible when we are online.

It is celebrated this year on 9th February.

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is all about ensuring the best possible childhood for every child and young person. All of the rights apply, all of the time, and this includes the time a child spends on the Internet. This week’s activities will include some particular focus on Articles 16 and 17, the rights to privacy and to access reliable information.

The United Kingdom Committee for UNICEF (Unicef UK) is calling for a long-term approach to ensure digital inclusion. We're asking the Department for Education to undertake a comprehensive mapping exercise to understand exactly how many children aren't online at home and why that is, and use this information to close the digital divide for good.

This weeks article of the week is centred around Article's; Article 2 – Non-discrimination and Article 13 – Freedom of expression.

LGBT+ History Month is in February each year.

LGBT+ History Month focuses on the celebration and recognition of LGBT+ people and culture; past and present to give people scope to talk about the bigger picture of LGBT+ experience, in which LGBT+ people are the agents of change.

The month celebrates successes and people and also recognises the challenges still faced today. The month also helps people outside of the LGBT+ community learn more about LGBT+ people, culture and history. 

Understanding and celebrating uniqueness are at the heart of our Christian vision and we want our children to understand that treating everybody with respect and dignity is important.  We also want them to celebrate uniqueness and develop the understanding that as individuals we are all different but equally important and loved.
