24th April 2026

In school this week

How lovely it is to see the sunshine this week! The school grounds look very springlike and the children have been enjoying making daisy chains during their lunchtime play on the field!

Today, in celebration worship, we have launched our Sunflower growing competition that will be taking place over the next term in school. Each class have been given some sunflower seeds which they will be planting and tending to over the coming weeks. Each week, we will be measuring the seedlings as they grow into bigger plants. Last year, there was strong competition between the classes for who can grow the tallest plant - I don't think this year is going to be any different.

We are looking forward to seeing school families at All Saints church for Sandygate Sunday this weekend. Please come along even if you haven't signed up.

General news & reminders

Word of the Week

This academic year we have been focusing on further developing the children's vocabulary so that they have a wider range of words to choose from. Part of this learning has been to make sure that we explain the meaning of words which will improve their understanding of what they read and hopefully encourage them to use a richer variety of vocabulary in their written work.

As a school staff, we have joined in with this and are launching a 'Word of the Week' for adults, and we thought that you, as parents and carers, would like to join in. Each week for the next half-term, we will be posting the word of the week here. The idea is that we look for opportunities to use these words and others our day-to-day conversations.

You can find this week's word below:

Whole School News

Our school photographer will be coming to school on Friday 8th May to take class photos.

Sports Day

  • Date: Wednesday 24th June, 9am – 12 noon

Please note this day has now changed from Monday 22nd June and is now Wednesday 24th June.

Come and join us for a fun and supportive morning of sport!

More information to follow on this.

Healthy lunch boxes

Should you choose for your child not to have school meals, then here are some guidelines which we would ask you to follow for your child’s packed lunch:

  • Lunch should include at least one savoury item, which your child will be encouraged to eat first.
  • Lunches must not contain sweets, confectionery or fizzy drinks.
  • No nut-containing products (this includes chocolate spreads which contain nuts)
  • As a healthy school, we would encourage you to limit items containing chocolate to one small snack-size cake or biscuit (not a chocolate bar) and perhaps put in just a few crisps rather than a whole packet, or give them this once a week as a treat.
  • We would also advise not to pack too much, as the children are given up to 30 minutes to eat their lunch, as we would like them to be able to play as well. Any food which is uneaten will remain in your child’s lunch box so that you are able to monitor what they have eaten.

One Can Trust

Donations tail off hugely during this time of year, leaving One Can Trust's shelves feeling very empty. Above is a list of items that are particularly wanted.

We would like to remind families that our donation point is always accessible. It is located to the right of the main gate. Therefore, donations can be left there whenever you like.

Uniform

Hair

We would like to remind families that if your child has long hair, please keep your child's hair tied back using red/white/black hairbands.

School cap

Now that we are in the summer term and the weather is warming up, please make sure your child has a red school cap. These are kept in school to use throughout the term. They can be ordered from our uniform supplier, PMG Schoolwear.

Mini Marathon

Next week in school, all the children will be running, skipping and walking 2 miles to promote the importance of movement. The Reception children will be splitting the mileage across the week (so a bit every day) and KS1 children will complete the mileage in their PE lessons. We have taken part in the TCS Mini London Marathon in Schools since it started in 2020, and every year the children have really enjoyed the challenge. Each child will receive a certificate for taking part and, as a school, we will receive a trophy for taking part.

There are always many different reasons why people choose to run the London Marathon and most of the time this is because they want to challenge themselves. We are always encouraging the children at school to rise to a challenge and our Mini Marathon next week will be one such challenge. You can see below some examples of others who have taken on the challenge of the London and Mini London Marathon themselves.

The London Marathon (in its 46th year) takes place on Sunday 26th April and is always inspirational to watch. If you have a chance on Sunday to watch it with your children, please do. It is brilliant!

Parent helpers for Outdoor Learning

During the week commencing Monday 18th May, in Outdoor Learning, the children will be doing some planting in the school garden raised beds. We require 2 parent helpers for each year group to support this. This will be for the whole morning.

Thank you to those of you have already offered. We still require some more help for Reception and Year 2 if possible please.

If you are available to help on the below days, please let us know via the link below.

Tuesday - 2 helpers for Year 2

Wednesday - 2 helpers for Year R

Thursday - 2 helpers for Year 1

Class Home Pages

The class home pages for the first half of the summer term are now live on the school website. All you need to do is to log in here to access information about the next half-term's curriculum for your child's class and some links on how to support your child with their learning at home.

Marlow Town Regatta and Festival Schools Concert

We have the opportunity again this year to join with other Marlow primary schools to sing at the Regatta Festival on Sunday 14th June. It is a lovely event that children remember for years to come.

We would love, once again, to have a large number of children representing the school on this weekend of festivities. If you would like your child to be involved, please could you fill in the attached form. Initially, the rehearsals will start after Easter within hymn practice time with Mrs Downing. Later in the term, Sheila WIlson, the composer of the songs and the schools' coordinator, will be coming into school to practice with those children who have signed up.

I hope many of you will be able to join this lovely family event.
