In school this week

This week in school, the Year 2 children have been busy creating their sea creature sculptures in art. They enjoyed being able to model with clay, giving the creature features and adding texture. In Year 1, the children had a great time in their computing lessons - they have been using MAze Explorers on Purple Mash to create algorithms. The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson has been a key feature of the learning in Reception this week, and they have been vescribing their own version of the Gruffalo and writing about it.

The class photos went well today. The weather stayed dry so we were able to have them taken outside. I'm looking forward to seeing them all!

General news & reminders

Word of the Week

This academic year we have been focusing on further developing the children's vocabulary so that they have a wider range of words to choose from. Part of this learning has been to make sure that we explain the meaning of words which will improve their understanding of what they read and hopefully encourage them to use a richer variety of vocabulary in their written work.

As a school staff, we have joined in with this and are launching a 'Word of the Week' for adults, and we thought that you, as parents and carers, would like to join in. Each week for the next half-term, we will be posting the word of the week here. The idea is that we look for opportunities to use these words and others our day-to-day conversations.

You can find this week's word below:

Active Journey Week

  • Dates: 18th - 22nd May

Active Journey Week aims to increase the number of children walking, cycling, and scooting to school. Actively travelling to school has many benefits for your child: it helps keep them fit and healthy, can increase concentration levels in class, helps develop road safety skills, and is fun. Reducing the number of cars around the school will also help to make the area quieter, safer, and less congested.

The class with the most increased active journeys will win the Active Journey trophy and an additional badge. Who will win this summer term?

Lunch reminder

Children should either have lunch ordered through the Kids Lunch Co. or bring in their own packed lunch, but should not have both. This not only causes confusion for our midday supervisors, but also results in a lot of food waste.

We understand there may be exceptional circumstances and days when your child brings in a packed lunch despite having a lunch order placed. On these occasions, if you can, please contact and let the Office Team know.

Thank you!

Marlow Town Regatta and Festival Schools Concert

We have the opportunity again this year to join with other Marlow primary schools to sing at the Regatta Festival on Sunday 14th June. It is a lovely event that children remember for years to come.

We would love, once again, to have a large number of children representing the school on this weekend of festivities. If you would like your child to be involved, please could you fill in the attached form. Initially, the rehearsals will start after Easter within hymn practice time with Mrs Downing. Later in the term, Sheila WIlson, the composer of the songs and the schools' coordinator, will be coming into school to practice with those children who have signed up.

I hope many of you will be able to join this lovely family event.
