22nd July 2026

In school this week

What a great year it has been! A year filled with memorable moments and achievements to celebrate. As we head into the summer break, it’s a perfect time to reflect on all we’ve accomplished and look ahead to the exciting plans in store for the future.

This morning’s End of Year service was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a school family and celebrate the journey we’ve shared. Our Year 2 children reflected on their time with us, sharing special memories from the past three years. It was a joy to recognise the progress every child has made over the last 12 months. While we’re sad to see our Year 2s move on, we’re excited about the new opportunities that await them and proud of the strong foundations they’ve built here at Marlow C of E Infant School.

Our incredible staff have once again gone above and beyond, and I feel so proud to be part of such a dedicated and passionate team. Even as we wind down for the summer, they’re already preparing for the year ahead. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each of them for their unwavering commitment and hard work.

The expertise of the school staff and the hard work of the pupils has resulted in some excellent end of year outcomes in terms of academic learning. Yet again, our Year 2 pupils have achieved levels significantly above the national average in reading, writing and maths. These outcomes can be found here. Our curriculum, teaching & learning provide the children with many wonderful opportunities, but what people don't always realise is how well the children achieve here at Marlow Infants. Another thing to celebrate!

When celebrating, we must not forget the hard work of the PFA committee and the rest of the parent body. The drive of the committee to put on fundraising events, the effort put into the events by those helping behind the scenes and on the day, and the generosity of our parents and carers makes for some huge amounts of money raised which makes the difference to our school budget. The constraints of the funding given to our school mean that, without generating the large amount of money that we do (and the funds raised by the PFA form part of this), we would not be able to cover the staffing costs. A massive thank you to every single person who has contributed to helping to raise the impressive £31,500 that the PFA have raised this year.

To all our school families, thank you for your continued support, kindness, and generosity. Your thoughtful gifts and kind words this week have meant so much to us all. Wishing you a restful, joyful summer holiday!

General news & reminders

This academic year we have been focusing on further developing the children's vocabulary so that they have a wider range of words to choose from. Part of this learning has been to make sure that we explain the meaning of words which will improve their understanding of what they read and hopefully encourage them to use a richer variety of vocabulary in their written work.

As a school staff, we have joined in with this and are launching a 'Word of the Week' for adults, and we thought that you, as parents and carers, would like to join in. Each week for the next half-term, we will be posting the word of the week here. The idea is that we look for opportunities to use these words and others our day-to-day conversations.

You can find this week's word below:

Legacy Books – REMINDER

It's that time of year again when we kindly ask Year 2 families to donate a legacy book (or more than one) in memory of their child's time at our school. We will label these to show who they were donated by. They will really help with our Core Read Aloud programme and to instil a love of reading in our pupils in the future.
