2nd October 2026

In school this week

Our Harvest Festival yesterday was a great school community event with the children singing so beautifully and the worship leaders sharing the importance of harvest festival.

Thank you to all the families who joined us at All Saints Church last week  for Sandygate Sunday and thank you to Mrs Downing who worked with the children to prepare them for singing in front of a very full church! The children sang so well.

This year, in response to parent feedback in our survey that was taken in the summer term, we will be changing how we report the children's learning progress. We will continue with two parent consultations, one in October and one at the very beginning of the summer term. We will increase the number of pupil progress reports to 3 and, of course, there will still be a written report at the end of the school year. There will be more details in the newsletter next week, but in the meantime, the October parent consultation booking portal has opened today. You can find more details below.

Volunteer training

  • Dates: Tuesday 13th October & Thursday 15th October

Mums, dads, carers and grandparents are all very welcome in school as helpers. Thank you to those who have offered their help already. We have had family volunteers working on a variety of activities including listening to children read, mounting and displaying work and helping with sewing and craft activities – the possibilities are endless. The school operates a policy whereby parents need to attend a short training session before helping out in class. This training will be held in the school hall. We are offering two sessions; 9.00am-9.30am and  2.30pm-3.00pm Tuesday 13th October or 9.00am-9.30am Thursday 15th October.

If you are interested in becoming a regular helper, please click here to read the Confidentiality Policy and here to read the Child Protection Policy. Then click here to complete the form.

Great Fire of London Day

The topic for Year 2 this half-term is the Great Fire of London. On Wednesday 22nd October, 'History off the Page 'will be coming into school to give the children enriching experience of the topic by immersing them into Stuart Britain. This is a fabulous day for the children when they become archaeologists, candlestick makers, leather makers...the list is huge.

The Ark Farm to visit Year 1

In support of our learning in Science this term, the Year 1 children will be having a visit from The Ark Farm. This experienced company will be setting up in the barn for the children to interact with a variety of different animal types.  The 'Small Animal Encounters' are designed to be calm, gentle, and confidence-building, giving children the opportunity to meet and interact closely with a range of friendly small animals. Sessions are delivered by experienced Ark Farm staff, with children supported at their own pace to encourage curiosity, careful handling, and positive early experiences with animals.

This visit will take place on Monday 5th October within school.

Reception

Cool Milk

We are finding that there is a lot of waste milk in school. In order to reduce the amount poured away, if you could please cancel your Cool Milk order if your child does not wish for milk at break time any more.

You can cancel or modify your child’s milk order through the Cool Milk Customer website using your Cool Milk account. Changes should be made by 5pm on the Tuesday before the week milk is to be delivered.

THANK YOU! – Back to School BBQ

The sun shone down on Saturday for our Back to School BBQ, and we had a wonderful time! Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed themselves, it was so nice to see you all have a lovely time, with lots of smiling little faces! We raised a fantastic £2500 which is an incredible start to the year!

A further thanks, as always, goes to our wonderful volunteers; we appreciate your dedication very much and it does not go unnoticed!

We hope it was worth parting with your hard-earned money and would love to hear any feedback (good or bad!) about this event. Please email us on pfa@marlowinfant.uk - this can really help us judge how to improve these events in the future!

Call for Silent Auction Volunteers!

We are looking for two exceptional volunteers to lead the Sandygate Silent Auction this year! We would really appreciate anyone willing to help with this as it's a substantial earner for the school and lots of fun for the community with great prizes!

If you would like to get involved but are worried about how to run this event, our previous Auction leaders, Nina and Alanna, will be on hand to give you a 'how to' and offer any guidance you may need!

Please email us at pfa@marlowinfant.uk if you're interested, or find one of us at the school gate!

Each year we rely on wonderful volunteers to deliver these great fundraising events to raise crucial funds for the school that directly enrich your child's experience at Sandygate, so your contribution is both necessary and treasured! You never know, you might also have some fun!

Foreign Currency Collection

Now that the summer holidays feel like a distant memory, if you have any left-over foreign currency (notes or coins) hanging around at the bottom of bags, purses or wallets, please drop it into the collection bucket at reception in front of the school office, and we will turn it into cash to support the school!

Stay in touch

We have a PFA Instagram account! Please do give us a follow, along with our Facebook page to help give us some support, and keep up to date with our latest news and events!

Hopefully you have all managed to join your year group WhatsApps! However, if you haven't and would like to, please email pfa@marlowinfant.uk
