9th October 2026

In school this week

On Monday, the Year 1 children had a wonderful visit from the Ark Farm. Our Eco Barn was full of all sorts of different creatures! Today in school worship, the children were telling me about the creatures and whether they were mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles.... This visit was funded by money raised by the PFA and has helped to embed the children's classroom learning!

Our Open Morning on Tuesday was hugely successful and very well attended. The feedback was very positive. Thank you to all the parents and governors who came along to help with the tours.

General news & reminders

Whole school news

Coats & other outdoor clothing

At this time of the year, the weather can be very unpredictable and can change over the course of the day.

Please ensure that your child has a coat in school every day. We try to get the children outside during playtime and lunchtime as much as we can and, with the current changeable weather, a waterproof coat is essential.

Please remember to check that all coats are clearly named.

Tissue Donations

We are entering that time of year when winter colds are more likely and therefore, a lot more tissues are used in school. Any donations of boxes of tissues would therefore be gladly welcomed for the children to have available in their classrooms.

Many thanks in advance!

Parent Governor

We’re looking for a new parent governor to join the governing body. It’s a really interesting and rewarding role offering a chance to shape the strategic direction of the school, support the SLT and ensure the best outcomes for the children.

No particular experience is needed, we need a broad range of people on the board and everyone is welcome! All training and support will be provided.

In terms of time commitment, there are 5–6 evening meetings per year, some school visits in the daytime and reading and training that can be done in your own time.

It’s a great way to develop new skills and give back to the community.

If you want to have a quick chat and find out more about the role then please speak to our chair, Robbie McFarlane or vice chair, Daphne Howarth on governors@marlowinfant.uk or register your interest with the school office.

Reporting to parents

As mentioned in Mrs Reynolds' message last week and in response to some of the feedback in the Parent Survey in the summer term, we will be making some changes to the way that we keep parents and carers informed about the progress that their children are making.

We will be trying to align our reporting process to the full terms, so that you have progress information at the end of each term. We have also added in an additional written progress report.

October Parent Consultations

  • Discussion with teacher about how your child has settled in to their new class
  • A written progress report summary.

End of Autumn Term

  • Written progress report summary emailed to parents at the end of the first week in January

End of Spring Term

  • Written progress report summary emailed to parents and carers during the last week of term
  • Parent Consultations during w/c 19th April

End of Summer Term

  • Full written report emailed to parents and carers

As always, if you are worried about the progress your child(ren) are making at other points of the year, you are welcome to contact the school office to make an appointment with the class teacher. If the class teacher has any concerns at other points of the year, they will, of course, contact you.

Parent consultations

**Please book if you haven't already**

  • Dates: Tuesday 20th & Wednesday 21st October, between 4pm-7pm

Parent consultation slots are now live on our school website. A reminder to please book if you haven't done so already. The office will be contacting those not yet booked next week with the remaining slots available.

Volunteer training

  • Dates: Tuesday 13th October,  Thursday 15th October & Wednesday 21st October

Mums, dads, carers and grandparents are all very welcome in school as helpers. Thank you to those who have offered their help already. We have had family volunteers working on a variety of activities including listening to children read, mounting and displaying work and helping with sewing and craft activities – the possibilities are endless. The school operates a policy whereby parents need to attend a short training session before helping out in class. This training will be held in the school hall. We are offering two sessions; 9.00am-9.30am and  2.30pm-3.00pm Tuesday 13th October or 9.00am-9.30am Thursday 15th October.

If you are interested in becoming a regular helper, please click here to read the Confidentiality Policy and here to read the Child Protection Policy. Then click here to complete the form.

Position Available

The Marlow Education Trust is looking for a proactive and reliable Estates Operative to help maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment for  all pupils, staff and visitors.  Do you know of anyone who might be interested?

Should this be of interest, you can find more information here.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2026

We will be receiving the traditional poppy boxes the week commencing 19th October, so the school council and school staff will soon be selling the poppies and other merchandise outside school at drop-off and pick-up each morning. The suggested donation for all items is £1. We also have a small supply of metal pin badges for adults, for a donation of £5.

Year 2

Remembrance Day

Next half-term, the Year 2 topic will be 'Lest We Forget' where the children will be learning all about the two World Wars,  the importance of Remembrance Day and the poppy as a symbol of remembrance.

On Monday 9th November in the morning, both Year 2 classes will be spending the morning at All Saints Church learning about Remembrance. They will walk down to church and consent for this is covered by the Local Area consent that parents and carers gave when their children started school. In order to make the visit possible, however, we will need volunteers to walk to and from church with us and to support us with the activities at All Saints.

We will leave school at 9.00am and return to school by 11.30am.

Sukkah Making

Please could all children bring in any toilet rolls/ kitchen roll tubes for Wednesday 14th October as the Year 2 children will be making their own Sukkah!

Great Fire of London Day

Date: Wednesday 21st October

**More volunteers required**

The topic for Year 2 this half-term is the Great Fire of London. On Wednesday 21st October, 'History off the Page 'will be coming into school to give the children an enriching experience of the topic by immersing them into Stuart Britain. This is a fabulous day for the children when they become archaeologists, candlestick makers, leather makers...the list is huge.

We are still short on volunteers for the event to take place. If you can help for either the morning, the afternoon or even all day, then please let us know below.

Reception

Nursery Rhyme Day

  • Date: Friday 23rd October

To celebrate their first half-term's work on the topic of Nursery Rhymes, Reception are planning a Nursery Rhyme Day on Friday 23rd October.

We would like to invite the children in Reception to come to school dressed as a nursery rhyme character. The costume does not need to be elaborate or shop-bought, a simple homemade costume would be perfect.

If your child decides not to dress up, that is absolutely fine. School uniform will be expected instead.

Natural resources required

Next week the Reception children will be doing some natural artwork in class. In preparation for this, please could the children over the weekend, collect some of the items below and bring them to school next week:

  • Conkers
  • Pine cones
  • Interesting twigs (not branches)
  • Autumnal leaves

Local Area Visit

Date: Thursday 19th November 10.45am - 11.45am

This half-term, the Reception children are going to be looking at different types of houses linked to their Noisy House story that they have been learning in Literacy.

On Thursday 19th November, Ants and Bees will be going on a walk in the local area to see how many different types of houses they can see. In order to make this possible, we will need 6 volunteers to join the classes for the walk.

If you are able to spare an hour to help the Reception team on Thursday 19th November between 10.45 and 11.45am, please use the form below.
